FAQs
Do I need both Control and Monitor?
No, both the StreamLabs Control and StreamLabs Monitor will monitor your water and alert you if there is a possible leak. The StreamLabs Control goes one further by shutting off your water if there is a leak detected.
For extra protection, we suggest the StreamLabs Scout to add additional point of leak detection.
Can I install myself or should I call a plumber?
Control:
The Control is an in-line water monitoring device, meaning that the pipe must be cut during installation. If you are not comfortable doing this, we highly recommend calling a plumber to install the device for you. You should also check your building code (some buildings require all plumbing work to be done by a licensed professional) as well as your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy. The Control comes included with physical installation instructions.
Monitor:
Yes, it only takes 5 minutes, no pipe cutting required! The Monitor connects to your home’s existing pipes and uses patented ultrasonic technology to find leaks.
Can I shut off my water through the app?
Yes, when you install the StreamLabs Control, you can manually turn off you water through the app. You can also set up your app to automatically turn off the water when a leak is detected.
What is the Difference between the Control and the Monitor?
All StreamLabs products help you reduce water damage risk with ultrasonic leak detection and real-time alerts. Choose based on how much coverage and control you want:
StreamLabs Control: An in‑line smart shutoff valve installed on your main water line.

- Remote water shutoff via the app.
- Provides continuous water monitoring and detailed usage information in the app, so you can track consumption and identify anomalies.

StreamLabs Monitor: A DIY (Do It Yourself), no‑tools, clamp‑on device that attaches to your existing pipe in minutes. Ideal for whole‑home monitoring without shutoff.
- What it does: Uses patented ultrasonic tech to detect leaks and abnormal usage across your home’s plumbing without cutting into the line.
- Continuously monitors water flow and provides water usage insights in the app (e.g., trends and abnormal consumption), helping you spot issues early.

What is Drip Detect™?
Drip Detect™ is the Control's way of checking your plumbing for small, easy-to-miss leaks which produce so little flow they would otherwise be undetectable. An old or damaged toilet fill valves, corrosion in copper pipes, a loose connection in an appliance such as a washing machine or ice maker, or a dripping faucet can all cause these easy-to-miss leaks.
What type of alerts can I receive?
Types of alerts include:
- Slow Leak
- Major Leak
- Away Mode Leak (alerts for any flow when you’re set to Away)
- Smart Alerts (flags unusual usage after learning your normal patterns)
- Room Temperature Alerts
- And more
You can customize alert settings, including Home/Away behavior, to ensure you’re notified in the way that works best for you. Learn more about alerts here.
